  • The Acne Advanced System by Eminence

We’ve been carefully working with Eminence’s new Acne Advanced line. After months of trials, we are excited about utilizing these products in our Clear it & Glow facial! This is not something that we jump into with new clients or clients in treatment. We slowly bring them in to help provide the results we seek at Pretty Please. Eminence has launched a new line of acne products that we are excited to share with you! The Acne Advanced Treatment Kit is a 3-step system of full-sized products created to work synergistically together to treat advanced acne in 28 days! The system includes the: Acne Advanced Cleansing Foam - $44 Acne Advanced Clarifying Masque - $58 Acne Advanced Clarifying Hydrator - $62 Buy entire kit for $130 (save $34!) The great thing about this new line is the ability to either use it as a 3-step system if you wanted to or incorporating one or two of the products into your routine depending on how advanced your acne is and your particular goals. For those with advanced acne (the cystic, under the skin hormonal breakouts that are typically tougher to treat) using this line as a 3-step system is ideal. If your acne is on the milder side - you get breakouts here and there, but still want a more potent product to target those breakouts, incorporating The Acne Advanced Clarifying Masque as a weekly all over skin treatment and/or the Acne Advanced Clarifying Hydrator are great options. We personally love using the Acne Advanced Clarifying Masque during facial treatments either all over or spot treating as it calms inflamed breakouts pretty quickly. The Acne Advanced Clarifying Hydrator is a light gel lotion texture and I love using it in two different ways – either on its own for oily skin and for those who prefer a super lightweight finish or as a first layer for acne prone skin in need of more hydration and then topping it off with a moisturizer suited for the client’s skin. Utilizing the Acne Advanced line in a Facial The Acne Advanced line would typically be used during the Clear it & Glow facial where high frequency and ultrasound is used to exfoliate and eliminate acne-causing bacteria. The great thing about Eminence is the ability to mix and match products to tailor the treatment for you. So for example, a client with more advanced acne might benefit from the use of all three products and or the Advanced Acne peel during the treatment. Whereas a client with acne but has more sensitive skin might benefit from the use of one product from this line. Acne Advanced Peel - an additional $40 The Acne Advanced Peel contains 15% encapsulated salicylic acid, which delivers time-release protection against breakouts by encouraging exfoliation and unclogging pores. In addition, the peel contains papaya fruit extract, which also exfoliates and brightens the complexion, grape seed extract provides powerful antioxidant protection, wound healing and moisturizes the skin while chamomile extract calms and balances the skin. Since you know your skin best, it’s always a great idea to work with an Esthetician so that they can provide a professional opinion and to also have an in-depth conversation about your skin’s history, current state, goals and what has worked or hasn’t worked for you in particular. What makes this line different than the Clear Skin Probiotic line? The Advanced Acne line is formulated with encapsulated salicylic acid, this means that salicylic acid is slowly released into the skin for continuous gentle exfoliation and pore-clogging action. It also contains a mix of three different clays to absorb excess oil, exfoliate and absorb impurities. In addition, the products contain a natural herb blend that protects, calms, and reduces the appearance of acne-related hyper-pigmentation and scarring. Using the Acne Advance Treatment System Tips from our skincare therapists: Not all is acne is the same and not everyone with acne requires the same treatment so we recommend starting slow with this system to get your skin adjusted to it. Starting with one product and then slowly incorporating another if needed is a good way to go. If you’re currently using prescriptions topicals like retinol, tretinoin, or other products for acne, weaning off the topicals first before starting this line would be best to avoid over-exfoliation and disrupting the skin’s moisture barrier. If you’re new to using products tailored for acne, starting off with the Clear Skin Probiotic line first can be a great option for you.

  • Amazing NEW Microcurrent Treatment

Anti-aging and prevention are some of the top skin concerns we hear from our clients. We love providing the best holistic skin treatments that address our most pressing skin concerns, all without the harsh side effects. Enter microcurrent facials, your non-invasive answer to your anti-aging concerns, this treatment improves muscle tone, lifts, reduces puffiness and defines your features. Think of it as a workout for your skin. Experiencing our Microcurrent treatment This treatment is part of our Blueberry Detox Firming Facial ($220) and our Triple Layer Facial $275). Though results are noticeably visible after one treatment, the best results are cumulative. Just like working on muscle tone and definition on your body, it takes consistent regular exercise for the muscles to fully tone up and remain that way. Monthly treatments are recommended. Starting at @ $220. How does it work? Microcurrent uses very low-voltage electrical currents that mimic our own bodies electrical current. When placed on your skin, these currents flow waking up and energizing lazy stagnant muscles. The increase in energy causes muscles to activate and in turn causes a tightening, lifted effect. As we age, our muscle structure declines, just as it does in our bodies, so a treatment like microcurrent provides that much-needed energy on a cellular level to re-educate the muscles to function as it once did. Benefits of the treatment Gives the skin an overall lifted, youthful appearance. Increases the muscle’s energy, allowing for lymphatic drainage to occur (the skin’s ability to naturally detoxify) resulting in less puffiness. Facial features appear more defined and awake in a more natural way. Who should not get microcurrent treatments? If you are pregnant If you have a heart condition Have a history of seizures and/or epilepsy If you have any metal implants including a pacemaker If you are currently under the care of a physician for a serious medical condition like cancer.

  • Introducing our new LED Treatment Facial

In keeping with our non-invasive but effective approach to skincare, we are so delighted to introduce our new bt-accent LED machine! As opposed to our previous machine that featured two handheld devices, our new machine comes in the form of a larger panel that hovers over your entire face allowing for the LED lights to target one large area at once. Featuring red, blue and combination lights, the bt-accent machine works great for a multitude of skin conditions like acne, redness, rosacea, inflammation, and wrinkles. The red light promotes collagen and elastin production and reduces inflammation. The blue light targets the acne-causing bacteria helping to reduce acne formations and blemishes. The combination lights address both anti-aging and acne at the same time. Just like our previous LED service, LED can be done as a stand-alone treatment or added to any of our facials. Starting at $55 + facial. Please note: Results vary depending on your skin and how well it takes in the lights. Regular exfoliation at home is recommended to allow your skin to be free of dead skin debris that may be blocking the lights from absorbing properly. You can also purchase a LED Light Therapy program for $550. (6 sessions,) For more information, please contact us. For best results, a series of 6 sessions are recommended every 7-10 days to begin and thereafter once every 2 months.

  • Bio-Brasion Trinity Microdermabrasion

Bio-Brasion Trinity Our newest & upgraded: Microdermabrasion treatment (add to any facial for $55) You know us, we have always believed we can get fabulous results by respecting the skin with treatments that are gentle and less invasive. We believe this microderm machine provides a true upgrade to our previous service. It’s truly the next generation of microdermabrasion. As opposed to our previous machine, the Bio-Brasion is crystal free, low suction and features customizable exfoliating tips to suit every skin type. This allows for an effortless glide across your skin without the friction and roughness of traditional machines. This gentle and effective exfoliation leaves the skin visibly soft, radiant, and glowing. Even those with fragile capillaries and sensitive skin can benefit from this service. Another special feature we love is the wet/dry technology, where custom treatment products can be used under the machine to enhance exfoliation, infuse and allow even better penetration in the skin. We are loving the results! The Bio-Brasion treatment can be added to any of our facials and is included in our Triple Layer Facial. It’s suitable for every skin type and while results are visible after one treatment, results may vary depending on your skin concerns and goals. For those seeking skin correction like acne scarring, a series of treatments would be recommended.

  • Microdermabrasion treatment

What is microdermabrasion? Though the name sounds rather painful, microdermabrasion is a gentle, non-invasive skincare treatment that exfoliates the top layer of your skin. It works by using diamond crystals that when passed along your skin performs a deep mechanical exfoliation, while at the same time a vacuum like suction, sucks up all the surface dead skin cells. Results: Reveals a smoother, fresher looking and brighter complexion without the harsh side effects. How often can it be done? Anywhere from every 4-8 weeks, depending on your specific skin condition and goals. What skin conditions does microdermabrasion treat? Microdermabrasion can work well for a number of different skin concerns such as uneven skin tone – including dark spots left over from acne, sun damage, fine lines/wrinkles, some acne prone skin types, enlarged pores, dry skin and those with a rougher skin texture. How does it work? For anti-aging While removing dead skin cells, microdermabrasion also stimulates new cell growth revealing a youthful and brighter complexion. It stimulates the production of collagen, a protein that decreases as we age but it’s vital in giving skin a plumped appearance. Acne Microdermabrasion removes pore-clogging material and with regular treatments can prevent buildup in the skin that often times gives the appearance of enlarged pores. With that said, it’s important to note that microdermabrasion is best not used on those with active breakouts on their skin as bacteria can easily spread. In this situation, it’s best to opt for a deep cleansing facial like our Clear It & Glow facial to target the active acne and help jumpstart the skin’s healing process. Once the breakouts have diminished, microdermabrasion can be performed to help with acne scarring and skin texture. Dry/flaky/Rough skin texture Microdermabrasion removes dead and dry skin that tend to leave a gritty feel to the skin. In doing this, new and healthy skin cells come to surface and overtime the skin texture begins to smooth out. Those with an excess accumulation of dead skin, a few treatments might be needed to see desired results. Who is microdermabrasion not good for? Though microdermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment, we recommend that those with very sensitive skin and some with certain types of rosacea to avoid microdermabrasion as these skin conditions are typically more reactive. Those with active rosacea flare-ups (red and inflamed skin and/or acne rosacea (redness coupled with acne like bumps) will do best with calming and nourishing treatments. Since rosacea comes in many forms, it’s always best to have your skincare therapist evaluate your skin first before deciding if microdermabrasion is a good fit for you. *If you’re unsure if microdermabrasion can work for you, our skincare therapists are here to help! Each appointment begins with a consultation where your skincare therapist can guide you in the right direction after analyzing your skin and hearing your concerns. If you’re interested in booking an appointment, you can do so by calling the studio at 646-363-6292 or through our online booking system.

  • Organic Spa Mag Feature

We are so proud to be featured in October's Organic Spa Magazine's 'City Spas' article!

  • Springtime Skin Care Prep

Spring is finally here and with the weather slowly warming up, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about things you can do to prep your skin for the impending warmer weather. Here are some tips to help your skin transition: Moisturize Moisturizing throughout all seasons is essential but as the weather warms up and humidity increases, our skin naturally produces more oil. Swapping out your richer moisturizers for light weight ones will still give your skin the necessary moisture it needs without the heavy feeling. Be consistent with your sunscreen Just like moisturizing, sunscreen should be used year round but more diligently during the spring and into summer. Longer day light hours is amazing! But it also means we are exposed to stronger sun rays and for longer periods of time. Using at least an SPF 30 and reapplying every two hours (while outdoors) is ideal as sunscreen becomes ineffective two hours after application. Don’t like the hassle of reapplying a cream based sunscreen? A powder SPF like Eminence’s Sun Defense Minerals is a great alternative! It’s finely milled so it won’t look cakey and comes in a convenient retractable brush. Another tip is to use a serum and or moisturizer with vitamin C underneath your sunscreen to boost it’s effectiveness. Protect your eyes As the sun’s rays become stronger during the spring season, this also means that we tend to squint more than normal resulting in more fine lines around the eye area. A pair of great sunglasses helps protect of course but using an antioxidant rich eye cream will help smooth out any fine lines. Try: Neroli Age Corrective Eye Serum, a light gel-cream that instantly nourishes and tightens the eye area but won’t leave you with the overly coated feeling we can sometimes feel with some eye creams.

  • Last Days of Winter Skin Care

by Juliana Isaac With winter now being fully underway, this usually means that our skin has been battling dry, flaky and/or irritated skin. When the temperature drops, humidity levels decrease, the air becomes drier and the moisture in our skin evaporates faster leaving our skin parched. So how do we tackle these winter skin issues? Prevent moisture loss Keeping moisture from evaporating from our skin as rapidly as it does in the cold weather is key. To do this, layering skincare products works wonders! Start with a hydrating serum, specifically one with hyaluronic acid. Serums contain concentrated ingredients and penetrate more deeply into the skin. Try Eminence’s Firm Skin Acai Booster Serum which contains hyaluronic acid and skin boosting antioxidants. Hyaluronic acid holds 1000 times it’s weight in water so it’s perfect for that much needed hydration our skin needs. Top it off with an oil or moisturizer to seal everything in. For the body, apply an oil right after a shower while the skin is still damp for best absorption. Hydrate from the inside Increasing our water intake is always a great start but also eating lots of healthy fats like avocado, cold pressed olive oil, coconut oil, foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids like flaxseed, walnuts, spinach, winter squash and chia seeds to name a few will hydrate you internally. Herbal teas are also a great substitute if constantly drinking water in the winter is not exactly your thing. Exfoliating & Dry brushing It goes without saying but this part is the most important as without it we would just be applying products on top of dead skin debris, so the skin won’t reap the benefits of your products. Exfoliate your face 1-2 times per week and dry brush your body daily. When dry brushing, start from your feet and work your way up in upward strokes towards the heart. Cleanse only once per day To prevent further stripping of your skin's natural oils, cleanse your face thoroughly at night and follow with layering your products. In the morning, simply rinse with water or apply a balancing or hydrating toner on a cotton pad.

  • February FAQ - Large Pores

by Jennifer Rasa My pores are getting bigger, what can I do? Pores Pores Pores! Everyone and I mean EVERYONE is concerned with their pore size! Here are a few helpful tips to help keep those pores at bay! ;) The Culprits Dirt Oil Makeup The reason? When all that gunk builds up in your pores, it starts to harden and stretch out your pores! Also, when the sun comes in contact with all of that build up, it oxidizes, which is when they turn into the dreaded blackheads! So how can you help improve this pesky situation? Finding the right exfoliant and serum for your specific skin type is going to be key! I have lots of clients tell me they are exfoliating but it ends up not being the right exfoliation for their needs. Use the Correct Exfoliant I find that a lot of clients are using exfoliants that are too harsh for their skin. If you know me, you know that I also love a good rice powder to exfoliate. It’s a super fine grain that will help get into the pores and help loosen those blackheads instead of just scratching the skins surface. My Recommendation Either the Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant or the Stone Crop Oxygenating Fizzofoliant! Exfoliating one to two times a week will help keep your skin smooth and help to avoid that build up in your pores! Sensitive Skin? If your skin is to sensitive most people say they can’t exfoliate. Not true, they just need an exfoliation mask that can sit on the skin and work its magic instead of a physical exfoliant like a scrub! My fave is the Rosehip and Maize Exfoliating Masque from Eminence Organics! Beauty Elixirs Just as important as finding a good exfoliant is also finding a good serum! As the ancient Europeans like to call it their “beauty elixirs.” Serums are infused with tons of antioxidants and vitamins! They are your everyday treatment that will help correct your skin and fight free radicals that lead to premature aging! They also help against build up in your pores. They replace the dirt and oil with antioxidant rich, pore loving ingredients that will help keep your pores tight and the gunk out! I’m up for filling my pores with all that love to help fight out all that gunk. How about you?

  • January FAQ - Cold Weather Cures

Question: OMG! Jenn, this blistering cold is killing my face... what can I do to help it!?!? Answer: Bump up that moisturizer with a good oil!  My fave is the Facial Recovery Oil to help pamper, tone and deeply hydrate That dry sensitive skin the winter is wreaking havoc on our faces right now! Bump down exfoliation to once a week and add a mask (love the Bamboo Age Corrective Masque). This will combat the freezing cold by incorporating ingredients like ultra-hydrating shea butter and strengthing Bamboo!  Feels like silk and restores that moisture like no other! We all know I love to apply all Eminence products with a wet palm but try wetting that palm with a hydrating toner like the Neroli Age Corrective Hydrating Mist or our Stone Crop Hydrating Mist to boost your products. This extra hydration and nourishing ingredients provide that extra TLC our skin may need at this time of the year!

  • Top 5 Skin Resolutions for the New Year

by Juliana Isaac Skincare Therapist at Pretty Please NYC Double cleanse at night Start off with an oil or milky cleanser to dissolve makeup and impurities from the skin. After rinsing go back and cleanse again to remove any excess dirt and oils. Makes a big difference! Mask, Mask, Mask! Mask at least once a week to give your skin a boost on concentrated ingredients or a deeper cleaning. You can totally multitask with your masks too! say for example you have an oilier congested t-zone but your cheeks are on the drier side, charcoal mask for the t-zone and a hydrating one on your cheeks. Hydrate As we all know diet plays a huge part on our skin, and often times we get overwhelmed with trying to incorporate a bunch of healthy foods/choices at once. I say, let’s try one thing at a time. If for example, you want to drink more water, focus on that goal first by incorporating more glasses of water at specific times you can easily remember like starting your day with a big glass of water and then another when you get home or before bedtime. Exfoliate Keyword is always exfoliate :) so important to get rid of the dead skin layer that’s sitting on our skin. Once you have fresh new skin cells your products will penetrate better. Smile always! Nothing really makes someone more beautiful than a smile :) Fun fact: there have been studies on the emotional effects of producing a smile that suggests that when we smile, even if we don’t ‘feel’ like it, it actually does lift our mood, in turn making us happier. Love that!
